owning a business in anthem
Anthem is a mix of residential, commercial, office, industrial and public spaces, making it a unique master planned community. Although Anthem is unincorporated, the area of Anthem west of I-17 was annexed by the City of Phoenix. Because of this, businesses west side of I-17 fall under the jurisdiction of the City of Phoenix. For businesses located to the east of I-17, Maricopa County is the governing entity.

Anthem does not require business licenses. Depending on location, contact the City of Phoenix or Maricopa County for requirements. Because Anthem is unincorporated and not a municipality/city, it does not collect sales tax. However, regardless of location property in Anthem, commercial property owners pay a semiannual assessment to the ACC.
Both temporary and permanent signs require ACC approval. Permanent signs must go through the ACC design review approval process. Additional signage permits are required from either the City of Phoenix (west of I-17) or Maricopa County (east of I-17) after ACC approval.
