Reminder about Anthem Washes and Wildlife

  • A designated area where it’s prohibited to disturb the soil or interrupts the natural flow of water. Anthem, Arizona: washes and 404 areasThis is known as a 404 area; a section of the Clean Water Act.
  • 404 areas are monitored, regulated, and enforced by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Arizona Regulatory Branch and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
  • “No Trespassing” signs are there to protect areas from damage. Trespassing can result in criminal charges from Phoenix Police or Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
  • It’s illegal to dump anything into the washes, including branches, mattresses, pet poop, furniture, and other rubbish.
  • ACC follows the same laws for the 404 areas and wash areas.
  • ACC maintains the trails inside wash areas, up to three feet on either side of the trail.
    • Report locations in need of attention: ACC Parks and Facilities Maintenance Department, 623-879-3035 (during business hours).
  • Anthem is a native environment to several species of wild animals.
    • Do not feed the animals.
    • Never try to catch or pet a wild animal.
    • Leave them alone and they’ll leave you alone.
