The holidays are often difficult for grieving families. Be gentle with yourself—and develop strategies for moving through this challenging season. Attend Coping with Grief During the Holidays, a presentation by Hospice of the Valley at the Civic Building on November 14 at 6:30 p.m.; free.

Shop ‘til You Drop on December 1 and 8 allows parents to get stuff done! Whether it’s shopping, decorating or just kicking back to relax, the kids will have fun at the Community Center. See page 7 of the Activity Guide.
Come to Storytime with Buddie the Elf—back by popular demand! Along with other elfish friends, he’ll stop by the Community Center on December 16, from 2-4 p.m. to share stories, snacks, games and songs; $25 per family. See page 13 of the Activity Guide for details.
Fit for the holidays
The always-popular Maintain; Don’t Gain challenge at the Community Center is a great way to stay in shape this winter (and earn prizes). Find out more in the Activity Guide.
The Turkey Trot 5k and 10k, as well as a Kids’ Dash on November 22 begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Community Center. The Holiday Classic Triathlon on December 8 includes a 400m heated pool swim; a 20k cycling course and a 5k run for kids and adults. Sign up in advance for either of these two race events at 4peaksracing.com; entry fees apply.
If you live in Parkside: Remove Halloween decorations by November 12. Holiday lights, as well as other holiday decorations such as wreaths or wreath-sized décor placed on front doors, inflatables, and other holiday yard art, may be displayed beginning November 1; remove all decorations by
January 15, 2019.
If you live in Village: Lights may be displayed between November 15 and January 15, 2019. Seasonal decorations may be installed 30 days prior to the holiday and must be removed within 15 days after the holiday. Remember that lights must be hung using temporary hangers (no nails). Yard decorations are not allowed.
If you live in Country Club: Remove Halloween decorations by November 7. Thanksgiving decorations may be installed beginning November 1; remove by December 1. Winter holiday lights and decorations may be displayed between November 23 and January 31, 2019.
Republic Services offers all Anthem residents two opportunities for free natural tree disposal, December 29 and January 5. Drive-thru service will be available in Community Park (lower lot) from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. both days. Enter from Whitman Drive and exit onto Gavilan Peak Parkway. Please remove all stands, bag, ornaments, tinsel, etc., prior to disposal.
