Lifeguard training draws local talent

It sounds crazy to start thinking about summer so soon. But for the staff of the Community Center, preparation begins early, especially when it comes to finding lifeguards for the busy season. StarGuard Certification classes commence in March, and hiring will begin in the spring.

Lifeguard certification isn’t easy, and the job certainly isn’t for everyone. To complete training, participants must pass a pre-course skills test, attend all classes in the session, demonstrate competency in each required skill and correctly answer at least 80 percent of the questions on each section of the written exam.

While lifeguarding is a serious job – these front-line employees hold the safety of all residents and guests in their hands at the aquatics park – Anthem guards also have fun attending staff bonding events and performing weekly dance routines for pool crowds.

Class dates (must attend all classes in selected session):

March 2-4 and 9-11;
March 20-23 (spring break); or
March 30-31 and April 6-8

Cost: $155. To register, stop by the Community Center front desk; register up until the day of the first class.
