Programs will be in abundance this spring

child and parent playing outsideAs we start to “thaw” from the harsh Arizona winter, people will be looking for active and fun activities. Luckily, both the Community Center and Civic Building have classes and programs for everyone this spring.

Jewelry Making: Ages: 16 yrs. and older. Taught by Denise Paradis, classes are 2-3 hours in length. All tools and materials are included. Register in advance at the Civic Building.

March 18, 9 a.m.: Byzantine Chainmaille Bracelet; cost is $50.
March 23,  6 p.m.: Big Swirl Bracelet; cost is $40.
April 15, 9 a.m.: Wire Working; cost is $35.
April 22, 9 a.m.: Cha Cha Ring; cost is $45.

Kickball (Youth): Ages: 3-6 yrs. Practices start the week of April 3. Teams will practice at various times throughout the week. Volunteer coaches are needed. League starts April 8. Game times range from 9 a.m.-noon. Registration is $40 per child; deadline March 26. Contact the Community Center for info and to register.

Kickball (Adult): Ages: 18 yrs. and older. This six-game season is a fun league for everyone! Free agent list is available. Great for business teams. League starts April 26. Games begin at 6:30 p.m. Registration is $195 per team; deadline April 17. Contact the Community Center for info and to register.

Krav Maga Anti-Bullying for Youth: Ages 8-12 yrs. Learn anti-bullying techniques that focus on verbal de-escalation. Get fit through self-defense training while developing flexibility, agility and speed. Free “preview” class on April 3 or 5; must pre-register. The class begins April 10 and runs every Monday and Wednesday ending May 3; from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Cost is $47; register by April 5. Contact the Community Center for info and to register.

Krav Maga Self-Defense for Adults: Ages 13 yrs. + Get fit through self-defense while learning to defend yourself against attackers. Develop simple and easy moves anyone can do, regardless of age, physical fitness level or experience. Free “preview” class on April 3 or 5; must pre-register. The classes begin April 10 and runs every Monday and Wednesday ending May 3; from 10-11 a.m. or 6:30-7:30 p.m. Cost is $47; register by April 5. Meditation: Step by Step: Ages: 18 yrs. and older. Learn the basics of meditation for developing wisdom, compassion and peace of mind in this three-part series. Learn to make yourselves and others happy by developing inner peace. Presented by Kadampa Meditation Center Phoenix. Program runs March 8, 15 and 22 from 6-7 p.m. Cost for the series is $36. Mind Quest: Criminal Deviancy: Ages: 16 yrs. and older. Cat Thor returns with "Know Thine Enemy: A Class Primer on Criminal Deviancy." In this session, get an incisive look into the disturbing world of the criminal mind and how you can prepare for the worst. Learn the dark side of human nature, the reality of violence, the crime triangle, the criminal mindset, situational awareness, the criminal assault paradigm, predictive profiling fundamentals and more. The event is March 2 from 6:30-8 p.m. and is free. Mother/Son 007 “Bond”ing: Ages: 4-10 yrs. Experience a heroic and thrill-filled James Bond adventure! This event includes courageous missions, cool spy gadgets and explosive action where mother and son save the day. Dress to impress, 007 is the secret agent who always beats the bad guy and saves the beautiful girl (that’s you, Mom!). March 10 from 6-8 p.m. Cost is $15 per pair; $8 for each additional child.
