Program is training the future lifeguards and counselors

Date Modified: Wed, 04/26/2017 - 4:09pm

Summer time in Anthem is always a busy season for a lot of families. The pool and camps are some of the more popular destinations for Anthem youth every year. What may get overlooked at times is the dedicated and well-trained staff that make sure campers and pool goers stay safe.

If you have a youth, ages 11-14, interested in being a part of the next generation of lifeguards and counselors, then the Jr. Lifeguard & Jr. Counselor program is a great place to start.

Participants will learn the skills necessary to become a lifeguard and/or counselor. They must be comfortable around water, around children and be able to swim the length of the pool. A swimsuit (one piece for females), change of clothes, towel, sunscreen, water bottle and sack lunch will be required each day.

Registrants must pass a swim test the first day, and graduates will have the chance to volunteer for the summer.

Two sessions are available:
May 30-June 2 (register by May 25),
June 26-29 (register by June 21).

Each session runs from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and the cost is $85.

A renewal session, for those who have passed the course described above, will run June 1-2 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Cost is $40 and registration is due by May 25.

Contact the Community Center front desk for more details or register for the program.
