If you’ve been waiting to clear your library overdue fines, now’s the chance! The Maricopa County Library District’s (MCLD) annual Food for Fines program starts on Friday, July 7 and runs through Saturday, July 15. The program allows library customers to bring in non-perishable food items to any of MCLD’s 17 locations. One non-perishable food item = $2 in waived fines. Each account can have up to $50 waived.
This program is only valid at Maricopa County Library District Locations.
What is Food for Fines?
For one week each year, the Maricopa County Library District allows you to pay off overdue fines on your account by bringing in donations of non-perishable food items to any Maricopa County library. For each item donated, we’ll waive $2 in overdue fines, up to $50 per account.
What food items should you donate?
Items such as peanut butter and jelly, mac and cheese, tuna fish, cereal, and canned vegetables are always in high demand. You can always check with your local food pantry to see if they have any specific non-perishable food needs.
What happens with my donation?
We send all donations to local food pantries so they go directly to your community.
What if I don’t have any fines on my account?
If you don’t have any fines and still want to participate, that’s awesome! Your donation will help waive overdue fines on a child’s account!
