About Anthem

Anthem is an unincorporated community located in the north central portion of Maricopa County and the City of Phoenix, was awarded "Best Master Planned Community" in 2001, and named one of Phoenix Magazine's "Best Family Friendly Neighborhoods" in 2012.

Anthem consists of a mixture of residential, commercial, office, industrial and public uses, making it a unique pioneer amongst master planned communities.

Anthem was intended to be a marriage between the residential and business communities. Both communities are recognized as an essential component of the other, and therefore create a whole that is more than the sum of its parts.

Governance

Anthem was founded in 1999, built out in 2008 and includes 5,920 acres (or 9.25 square miles) of land. Anthem is a master-planned community with residential areas divided into three homeowners' associations; Parkside, which includes 7,031 homes; Country Club with just over 2,800 homes; and The Village Condominiums with about 210 homes. Parkside extends across I-17 to the west, and is served by the City of Phoenix; whereas, the east side of the freeway is governed by Maricopa County. The three HOAs serve in an administrative role over the residential areas, whereas the Anthem Community Council serves as the umbrella agency with the mission to preserve, protect and enhance a genuine sense of community. Anthem is unincorporated, with oversight by a seven-member, volunteer Board of Directors representing each HOA.
